Police clampdown on Colwick Country Park Dogging location
Colwick Country Park Dogging has been a known problem for the police and city council in Nottinghamshire for a long time, but now it’s been forced to close. It seems too many people complained about the dogging sex going on!
The authorities have now blocked off a car park to the area in Daleside Road following a number of complaints from members of the public.
It will not be accessible to motorists for the foreseeable future, with no firm plans for when it might re-open.
A spokeswoman for Nottinghamshire Police said: “The decision to close the car park was made in conjunction with the council and, as a result, there has been a reduction in complaints.
Colwick Country Park has been the subject of several similar complaints over the years.
In 2012 police revealed they had warned around 200 people about the consequences of engaging in sexual activity or indecent exposure at the park over the course of just one year.
Officers took car registration numbers and sent out warnings and letters to homes and employers to deter people from returning.
Nottingham City Council’s parks development manager James Dymond said: “We have previously had issues with people meeting at this car park and going into the woods to engage in sexual activity.
“Extra police patrols had temporarily put a stop to this but the problem has recently re-emerged.
“We have taken the step of putting in bollards to block access to the car park in an attempt to deter this activity in the long-term.
“We have no plans to re-open the car park for the time-being, but this will not impact on genuine park users who still have two other car parks to choose from.”
Colwick Country Park is still frequently advertised in the Let’s Go Dogging members area, others include Cotgrave Country Park, Vernon Park in Old Basford and Stapleford Woods.
