Braintree: MP fights to tighten dogging laws

n MP is fighting to tighten laws on sex in public places following outrage over district dogging hotspots.

Braintree MP Brooks Newmark will be writing to the Home Office after disgusted residents complained about strangers meeting up for sex in an A120 lay-by near the Pattiswick junction.

Mr Newmark said there were two laws in place that police could enforce; one is if the act causes a public nuisance and the other is when the act causes distress, harassment or alarm.

Mr Newmark said: “The police aren’t in a position to do anything about dogging unless these people are causing distress.

“I think that certainly the law needs reviewing.”
