Hertingfordbury road may get vehicle ban to deter potential dogging

VEHICLES may be banned from using a road in Hertingfordbury amid rumours that the land is used for dogging.

Hertfordshire County Council is looking into a request by a householder on the unnamed road off St Mary’s Lane to block off vehicular access and locals believe it is because the site is thought to be used by people taking part in sexual activities in public.

John Barnes, of Chandlers Way, Hertford, said: “I’ve heard you’ll still be able to walk there but not drive a car.”

The authority refused to confirm or deny the dogging rumours.

A council spokesman would only say: “We are currently considering a request from a householder to partially extinguish highways rights on the road, so that regular vehicle access is prohibited other than for the householder.

“Negotiations are ongoing and no decisions have yet been made.”

Hertfordshire Constabulary has been informed of the fears about dogging.

A police spokeswoman said: “The local safer neighbourhood officer is aware that people are concerned that dogging might happen on the site and it’s been mentioned on a dogging website that it’s a place to visit.

“However, there have been no reports of it actually happening.”
